James Arthur, born James Andrew Arthur on March 2nd, 1988 in North Yorkshire, England is a British singer and songwriter. He began writing and recording music at the age of 15 as a solo artist. He also played in a few bands which included Moonlight Drive, Cue the Drama, Save Arcade, and Emerald Skye. In 2012 he recorded music and released two EPs. The first is called Hold On and the second called The EP Collection CD. He also released his own music on SoundCloud and Youtube, including the album Sins by the Sea.

In 2012 James auditioned for the 9th season of The X Factor. He auditioned with Tulisa’s song “Young.” He also performed renditions of LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” and “Fallin” by Alicia Keys. In December of that year James won the X Factor competition. For his winning song he played Shontelle’s song “Impossible.” He released the song as a charity single. The song topped the UK charts and sold over 971, 000 copies. In 2013 he released his debut album called James Arthur on the label Syco Music. The album debuted at number  2 on the UK Albums chart. In 2016 he released his second album called Back from the Edge.
