Jacob Whitesides

Singer-songwriter Jacob Whitesides was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 11, 1997. After attending a bluegrass festival in Knoxville, he decided that he wanted to pursue a music career. He played shows around Knoxville and posted videos of himself singing covers on Youtube, which gathered a lot of attention. He auditioned for the Fox television show, “The X-Factor,” and made it through the first cut in 2012. In 2014, he released his debut EP entitled “3 AM.” it contained various cover songs, and reached number 26 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, number nine on the Billboard Digital Albums chart, and number two on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. He released a follow up EP, “A Piece of Me,” with original songs in 2015. It reached number three on the Billboard Independent Albums chart.

Celine Dion

International superstar Celine Dion was born in Charlemagne, Quebec, on March 30, 1968, and was the youngest child of 14. After giving a stellar performance as a child at her brother’s wedding, she was encouraged to continue to pursue music, and at age 12, had composed and recorded her first song, entitled “Ce n’était qu’un rêve” (“It Was Only a Dream”). Her brother sent the song to manager René Angélil, who was highly impressed by her talent. She released her debut album in the early 1980s, entitled La voix du bon Dieu (“The Voice of the Good God”). Celine Dion became a widely recognized star in Canada, but made her international debut when she sang a duet for the 1991 Disney movie Beauty and the Beast. The song won a Grammy award the next year. She then released her international debut album, which was self-titled, and included the songs “If You Asked Me To” as well as “Love Can Move Mountains”.

Shortly after releasing yet another English-language album, titled The Colour of My Love, she married her manager Angélil in 1994. The album sold over 6 million copies in the United States, and featured her smash hits “The Power of Love” and “When I Fall in Love”. She continued this major success and released a total of eight more English-language albums between 1996 and 2013. Celine Dion has won a total of five Grammy Awards, including for her song “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic as well as for her album Falling Into You. She has since sold 200 million album copies worldwide.

Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson is an American singer/songwriter born on May 18, 1975 in North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii. His father is professional surfer Jeff Johnson, so Jack’s first passion was surfing. When he was sidelined by a serious surfing injury as a teenager, he began to focus all of his energy on music. He began playing guitar at the age of 8 and started songwriting at 12, but became serious about pursuing a music career when he played in the band Soil in college. He is heavily influenced by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Neil Young, Sublime, and Jimi Hendrix, who he considers his favorite musician of all time.

His debut album, Brushfire Fairytales, was released in 2001 and featured fellow musician Ben Harper. Two years later Johnson released his second album, On and On. It was the first album to be released through The Moonshine Conspiracy Records, Johnson’s personal record label.

Johnson’s next three albums, 2005’s In Between Dreams, 2006’s Sing-Alongs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, and 2008’s Sleep Through the Static garnered him mainstream commercial success. In Between Dreams features two of his most famous songs, “Better Together” and “Banana Pancakes”. His Curious George soundtrack was the second soundtrack for an animated film in history to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2010, Johnson released his fifth studio album To the Sea featuring the single “You and Your Heart”. 2013 saw the release of From Here to Now to You, his sixth studio album. He embarked on a 7-month tour to promote this album.

Ryan Tedder

Ryan Tedder, born Ryan Benjamin Tedder on June 26th, 1979 in Tulsa, Oklahoma is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who is known for work with his band One Republic.  Ryan began his musical journey learning to play piano at the age of three and began singing at the age of seven.  His musical influences range from The Beatles, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder, and Sting.

Ryan broke into the music scene during his internship with DreamWorks SKG by singing on demo tracks for other artists. In 2002 he caught the attention of producer Timbaland and began to train as both a producer and a musical artist. He is credited as the writer for One Republic’s song “Apologize.”  By the time One Republic emerged on the charts he has already wrote and helped produce songs for Natasha Bedingfield, Jennifer Lopez, Leona Lewis, and Hilary Duff.

As the vocalist for One Republic, Ryan and the band released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud, in 2007.  The album was released on Timbaland’s label Mosley Music Group.  The band released their second album, Waking Up, in 2009. One Republic released their third album, Native, in 2013 and their fourth album Oh My My in 2016.

Harry Belafonte

Harry Belafonte was born on March 1, 1927 in Harlem, New York. He started his career as a club singer, but shot to fame with the release of his album Calypso in 1956. The album contained the songs “Jump in the Line” and “Day-O,” both of which became smash hits. Belafonte also recorded blues, gospel, folk and show tunes. He starred in a television special Tonight With Belafonte in 1959 and became the first African American to win an Emmy. He continued to star in television specials in the 1960s. He spent most of the 1970s touring, but released a new album in the 1980s to protest Apartheid.

His first film role was in 1953’s Bright Road. He later starred in the musical Carmen Jones in 1954. In 1957, he had a role in Island in the Sun. In the 1970s, he had roles in Buck and the Preacher and Uptown Saturday Night. He appeared in the film White Man’s Burden in 1995 and in Kansas City in 1996, for which he earned a Best Supporting Actor award from the New York Film Critics Circle Award. He had a role in Swing Vote (1999) and starred in Bobby in 2006.

Eva Avila

Eva Avila, born Eva Gougeon-Avila on February 25th, 1987 in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, is a Canadian singer and songwriter that has been singing since the age of 2.  At the age of 9 she won the Homegrown Café talent show competition in Ottawa.

In 2006 Eva auditioned for Canadian Idol’s fourth season in Ottawa.  She sang the song “On My Own” from the musical production Les Miserables for her audition and advanced into the Top 22. She would go on to cover songs such as “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan, “Aint No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye, “Powerless” by Nelly Furtado, “White Wedding” by Billy Idol, and an original song called “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore?” on her way to the finals round.  For her grand finale she sang Nelly Furtado’s “Powerless (Say What You Want)” and ultimately won the competition.

After Canadian Idol, Avila signed with the label Sony BMG Canada and released her debut single “Meant to Fly.”  The song debuted at number 1 on the Canadian Singles Chart and certified double platinum. In 2006 Avila signed a modeling contract with Tom Ford.  In the same year she released her debut album Somewhere Else. It debuted at number 6 on the Canadian Album Charts. Eva released her second album, Give Me the Music, in 2008. The single of the same name was produced by Matrix Production.  The album marks her first United States release and the single “Damned” premiered on the Canadian Hot 100 and peaked at number 83.  She opened for Beyoncé on her I Am tour in Canada during 2009. Avila also closed the 2010 Winter Olympics in Russia.
