Richard Sherman is an American professional football player born in Compton, California on March 30, 1988. He is currently a cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He played football in high school at Dominguez High School in Compton, California. He went on to play college football at Stanford University for the Stanford Cardinal football team from 2006 to 2010. In 2011 he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round, 154th overall, in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was signed to a four-year contract for $2.2 million with a signing bonus of $184,424. He made his regular season debut in the NFL in the Seattle Seahawks season opened against the San Francisco 49ers. He became a Super Bowl champion in the 2013 season after the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. In 2014 he was signed to a four-year contract extension for $56 million with $40 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $11 million. In 2018 he was released by the Seahawks and signed with the San Francisco 49ers to a three-year contract for $39 million. Throughout his career he has recorded 404 tackles, 103 passes defended, 32 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, and 2 defensive touchdowns.
