Jewel, born Jewel Kilcher on May 23rd, 1974 in Payson, Utah is an American singer, guitarists, producer and songwriter. She began her music career by singing in bars and taverns with her father to earn a living. She learned to play the guitar while studying operatic voice in Michigan.

While living in her car she travelled around the U.S. trying to make a name for herself with her music. She often sang at the Inner Change Café in San Diego, the same place she was discovered by Inga Vainshtein in 1993. She signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and released her debut album in 1995 called Pieces of You.  The album consistently stayed on the Billboard 200 chart for over 2 years and peaking at number 4. The album spawned three singles that reached the top ten on the charts: “You Were Meant for Me,” “Who Will Save Your Soul,” and “Foolish Games.”

In 1998 she released her second album called Spirit with the song “Hands” reaching number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. She released 10 more albums up to 2015 and won an American Music Award for “Favorite New Artist” and MTV Video Music Award for “Best Female Video,” as well as a Radio Music Award, a Regis & Kelly Award and a Governor’s Award.
