Beth McCarthy-Miller was born on September 3, 1963 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She grew up loving music and started working as a DJ in her college years at the University of Maryland. A major in media arts, she accepted an internship from CNN but soon realized the news wasn’t the direction she wanted to go. After graduation, she interned for MTV and this is where her career took off. She worked her way up through various jobs, eventually making it to assistant producer, assistant director, and finally director for the network. Her major shows were The Week in Rock and The Jon Stewart Show. She is best known for her eleven years as the director of Saturday Night Live on NBC. She worked with all the greats and after leaving in 2006, she went on to direct The Marriage Ref (2010-2011), The 2012 Comedy Awards, 30 Rock (2007-2013) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2017). She has been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards as well as won two DGA Awards along with 4 DGA nominations.
