The indie-pop duo The Weepies are married couple, Deb Talan and Steve Tannen. They began playing together in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2001. They were fans of each other’s solo music, and after they met, decided to form a duo. They were married in 2007.

The Weepies released their first album at Club Passim in November 2003. It sold over 10,000 copies even though it was independently released. In 2005, they signed with Nettwerk Records and released their second album, “Say I Am You” on iTunes in December 2005. It was the most downloaded folk album on iTunes in eight countries in February 2006, and their single, “World Spins Madly On,” was the most downloaded folk track in the United States that same month. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol nominated “Say I Am You” for the Shortlist Music Prize in 2006. The duo collaborated with Mandy Moore on her album “Wild Hope” in 2007 and released their third album “Hideaway” in April 2008. “Hideaway” reached number 31 on the Billboard Top 200. Their fourth album, “Be My Thrill,” was released in August 2010 and featured Colbie Caillat on one of the tracks. It reached number 34 on the Billboard Top 200 and remained at number 3 on the Billboard Top Folk Albums for nine weeks. ‘

They parted ways amicably with Nettwerk Records in 2011. In December 2013, Talan was diagnosed with stage-2 breast cancer and has been in remission since June 2014. They released the album, “Sirens,” in April 2015 independently. Their music has been featured in many TV shows, films, and advertising spots, including a TV ad for Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.
