Contact / Director

Sofia Coppola was born on May 14, 1971, in New York, New York. She is an actress, producer, director and screenwriter. She was surrounded by the big screen and filming from an early age because her father, Francis, directed the famous Godfather movie. Sofia had few short acting appearances in the film, including a select few other films directed by her father. However, like her dad, she enjoys directing more than acting. She enrolled in the Fine Arts Program at the California Institute of Fine Arts because she had a great interest in photography and design, which she thought she would choose for her career.

Coppola started out by writing The Virgin Suicides, which was released in 1993, and she later created Lost in Translation with Bill Murray. Both of these works were a great success, especially Lost in Translation, which won her an Oscar Award in 2004. She also directed Marie Antoinette in 2006, which won her the Academy Award for costume design. She is also the first American woman to win the Gold Lion prize at the Venice Film festival for the movie Somewhere in 2010.
