Serge Ibaka was born on September 18, 1989 in Brazzaville, Congo. His career in basketball began at the age of 17 when he moved to France and joined a second division basketball team. Shortly after, Ibaka moved to Spain and played with CB L’Hospitalet. While in Spain, he earned the MVP award at the Reebok Eurocamp. This success soon created attention for Ibaka from numerous NBA basketball teams.
In 2008, he was drafted as the 24th pick in the NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics, now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder. After a successful career with the OKC Thunder, he was traded to the Orlando Magic in 2016. Most recently, Ibaka was traded to the Toronto Raptors and signed a 3-year contract for $85 million in July 2017.
