Russell Watson is a classical singer who was born on November 24, 1966 in Gildersome. As a young father, he began singing covers in clubs in order to gain extra money. Patrons challenged him to sing songs such as Nessun Dorma, and because of that, he won a Search for a Star in 1990. He began singing at various gigs after that.
Watson’s first album, The Voice, was released in May 2001. This album quickly grew successful and held a number one spot in both the UK and the US. He was the first British man to hold those spots simultaneously. Watson has performed for openings of many major events and locations. A few are The Ruby Union World Cup, Commonwealth Games, at the Nou Camp Stadium, World Games, and at the Buckingham Palace.
Watson is well known for the voice of the opening theme song of Star Trek: Enterprise. Watson won various awards, including Best-Selling Debut Album in 2001, Best-Selling Album in 2002 and he won Album of the Year at the Classical BRIT awards in 2001 and 2002.
