Roy Ayers is an American singer, songwriter, composer, musician, and music producer born in Los Angeles, California on September 10, 1940. He creates funk, soul, and jazz music. Ayers played a big part in the acid jazz movement. He is best known for his songs “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”, “Searchin”, and “Running Away.” He has been a sideman on albums for the artists Curtis Amy, Herbie Mann, David Newman, Leroy Vinnegar, Gerald Wilson, Jack Wilson, and Erykah Badu. In the 1970s he started the band Roy Ayers Ubiquity. They released 10 studio albums while together. In 1963 he released his debut solo album titled West Coast Vibes and has since released the albums Virgo Vibes, Stoned Soul Panic, Daddy Bug, Ubiquity, Let’s Do It, You Send Me, Fever, No Stranger to Love, Love Fantasy, Africa, Center of the World, Feeling Good, Silver Vibrations and more. Ayers was awarded The Congress of Racial Equity Lifetime Achievement Award.
