Rory McIlroy was born in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland on May 4, 1989. He is known for being the youngest player who ranked in the Top 50 golfers in the world. He scored 268 at the U.S. Open in 2011 and broke the record which was previously held by Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. He also won the PGA Championship in 2012 and, to date, he was the youngest player to win the PGA Tour playoff. McIlroy started playing golf as a child, and he competed at the World Championship 9 to 10 age division. He won the Ulster Boys Championship in 2002. He was part of the Junior Ryder Club’s winning team in 2004, and he bagged the 2005 British Masters when he turned 15. A year after, he won the Irish Close Championship and the West of Ireland Championship, becoming the youngest person to win two events. He also won the 2006 European Amateur Champion. His career as a professional golfer started in 2007, and he became The Belfry’s youngest affiliate member in that year.
