Opetaia Foa’I is a New Zealand Based singer and songwriter.  He is a member of the oceanic music group Te Vaka.  The group was founded by Opetaia Foa’i in 1995. Opetaia Foa’I’ musical influences include Joan Armatrading and Jimi Hendrix.

As a member of Te Vaka, he and the group released their self-titled debut album in conjunction with the label ARC Music in 1996. The album was released world to much critical acclaim. Their follow up album, Ki Mua, was released in 1999 under the label Warm Earth Records.  The album peaked at number 1 on the World Music Charts. In 2002 the group released their third album entitled Nukukehe. In 2005 they released their album Tutuki and won Best Pacific Music Album at the New Zealand Music Awards.

Opetaia Foa’i and his group have performed at the America’s Cup, the Commonwealth Games, the Rugby World Cup in Paris and the Olympic Games in Beijing. In 2015 Opetaia was taped to produce song work for the Disney movie Moana.
