Mike Batt, born Michael Philip Batt on February 6th, 1949 in Southampton, England is a singer, songwriter, producer, and conductor based out of the UK. He began his musical career after answering an advertisement in New Musical Express on behalf of Liberty Records where he was signed as a songwriter and artist.

In 1968 Mike signed the band The Groundhogs to Liberty Records and produced their first album Scratching the Surface. In 1974 Mike created the theme music for a children’s television program and licensed the character name as a band. The band The Wombles were born and the band would go on to release eight hit singles and four gold albums.

After his success with The Wombles, Mike attracted the attention of more prominent artists. He worked with Steeleye Span on their album All Around My Hat.  Mike also released a single under his own name called “Summertime City” which reached number 4 on the UK Pop Singles Chart. In 1979 he released solo albums with an orchestral production in the form of Schizophonia and Tarot Suite. In 1980 he released the album called Waves.  Mike has produced numerous hits including co-writing the theme song “Phantom of the Opera.”
