Known better by the name of Mateo, singer Iman Jordan was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 13, 1986. His grandparents had been musical talents, and it was only a matter of time before Mateo began to pursue a career in music as well. He learned how to play piano when he was 5 years old, and after graduating from college, he moved to New York City.
In the late 2000s, Mateo was signed to MySpace Records, with whom he released a three-part mixtape which he called “Underneath the Sky”. He then recorded and released the EP Get to Know Me: Live at Swing House. Then, in late 2010, he signed to Krucial Noise, through whom he put out a fourth mixtape titled Love & Stadiums. His debut single “Say It’s So” , which was released the next year, brought him the critical acclaim that he craved and featured vocal appearances by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz. He was signed to Interscope Records, and shortly after released yet another mixtape, Suite 823. In August 2013, Mateo released the EP We’ve Met Before, carried by the single “How Good is Your Love”.
