Kataklysm

Kataklysm is a Death Metal band from Montreal, Canada. Its members are Maurizio Iacono (vocals, b. July 12th, 1975), Jean-Francois Dagenais (guitars, b. October 16th, 1975), Stephane Barbe (bass, b. December 5th, 1975), and Olivier Beaudoin (drums, b. June 29th, 1984). Their style has been dubbed “Northern Hyperblast” due to the intensity and ferocity of their playing, especially due to former drummer Max Duhamel’s unique and rapid-fire drumming style (also called the Northern Hyperblast).

They were formed in 1991 and began their career with the release of three EPs (including The Death Gate Cycle of Reincarnation-1992, and Vision the Chaos-1995) before releasing their first studio album in 1995, Sorcery.
Known for consistently releasing albums every other year, they followed with Temple of Knowledge in 1996, with Victims of the Fallen World in 1998. This period witnessed a shift in their style to include more melodic elements to supplement their brutality. Their popularity peaked with the release of their fifth album, Epic (The Poetry of War) in 2001, which cemented their status as a death metal heavyweight.

As well as releasing one popular album after the other, Kataklysm has embarked on a series of wildly successful tours alongside legendary acts Cannibal Corpse, Vader, Deicide, Brutal Truth, and others. Their twelfth studio album, Of Ghosts and Gods, is set for release later this year.
