John Williamson is an Australian country music and folk singer, songwriter, musician, and television host, born in Kerang, Australia on November 1, 1945. The lyrics of his songs generally consist of the culture and history of Australia. He is best known for his hit song “True Blue.” Williamson learned to play the ukulele at seven years old and by the age of twelve had taught himself how to play the guitar and harmonica. While in college, he formed a folk music group. In 1970 he released his debut studio album self-titled John Williamson and has since released the albums Road to Town, Road Thru the Heart, Mallee Boy, Warragul, Waratah St, Mulga to Mangoes, Pipe Dream, The Way It Is, Hillbilly Road, Honest People, The Big Red, Butcherbird and many more. Williamson has released over fifty albums, five DVDs, and two lyric books. His albums have sold over 4 million copies in Australia alone. He has won twenty six Golden Guitar trophies at the Country Music Awards of Australia, three ARIA Music Awards, and three APRA Awards. In 2010 he was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
