Jean Michel Jarre is a French composer, performer, and record producer born in Lyon, France on August 24, 1948. He is considered a pioneer of electronic, ambient, and new age music. He is known for organizing outdoor events featuring his music with laser displays and fireworks. Jarre became well known in 1976 after the release of the album Oxygene. The album charted at number one in France and also charted in several other counties. It was certified gold by the GER and platinum by the MC and UK. Jarre released his debut studio album in 1972 titled Deserted Palace and has since released the albums Rendez-Vous, Zoolook, Revolutions, En attendant Cousteau, Chronologie, Interior Music, Session 2000, Geometry of Love, Electronica 1: The Time Machine, Equinoxe Infinity and many more. He has also released eight live albums, four remix albums, and fourteen compilation albums. Jarre’s albums and singles have sold over 80 million copies worldwide. He holds the world record for the largest audience at an outdoor event. Throughout his career he has been awarded numerous honors and awards, including an Eska Music Award, an International Cavalchina Award, a Steiger Award, a Q Innovations of Sound Award among others.
