Jamie XX

A member of the popular group The xx, Jamie xx was born in Putney, London, in 1990. His introduction to music came at a young age when he picked up the drums, but he soon realized that his creative flair could not come through as much as he wanted on that instrument. Instead, he started experimenting with the sounds and beats of ’80s music, and he was hooked. He called on his friends from The Elliott School where he attended, and together with Oliver Sims, Romy Madley Croft, and Baria Qureshi, the quartet formed The xx. Though he works closely with the group and has even released a record with them, Jamie xx is coveted for his remix work, and has remixed the songs of artists such as Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Gil Scott-Heron.

The industry began to take notice of Jamie xx when he remixed Gil Scott-Heron’s “I’m New Here”, titling it “We’re New Here” and releasing it in 2011. His solo single “Far Nearer/Beat For” was released that same year, and he followed it with the 2014 single “Girl/Sleep Sound”, both of which did very well on the U.K. charts.
