Iris DeMent

Born in January 5, 1961, Iris Luella DeMent came from Paragould, Arkansas. Her music revolves around country, folk, gospel, and alternative country genres. At three years old, her family moved to California in which exposed her to music by singing gospel music. Then during her teenage years, she was exposed to other genres of music. She then moved to Kansas City to study in college.

By age of 25, DeMent started writing her own songs, then moved to Nashville in 1988 to find a record contract. However, she didn’t get any until she released her very own “Infamous Angel” in 1992 by means of her independent label. The recording debut received universal acclaim which led to a reissued “Infamous Angel” in 1993 under the Warner Bros. label.
