Iggy Pop

Born in April 21, 1947, James Newell Ostenberg, Jr. or publicly known as Iggy Pop, came from Michigan, USA. Iggy Pop is considered as the godfather of punk. His long-time punk career dates back as early as ‘60s and ‘70s, together with his band The Stooges. He started his musical endeavours when he became intrigued by rock & roll music. His first band was formed by the name the Iguanas. Then, he discovered the blues via the Rolling Stones, and formed the band Prime Movers in 1965.

In 1967, he formed the band Psychedelic Stooges. They experimented with non-traditional music instruments like vacuums, oil drums, and others. Then, they became known for the simpler name Stooges, and changing Ostenberg’s name to Iggy Pop. In 1968, Elektra Records released their self-titled debut, followed by “Fun House” in 1970.
