Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum was born in Orbost, Australia on January 29th, 1943. His writings first appeared in the music scene in the weekly teen newspaper Go Set (1966-1974). Originally working as a music journalist and record producer, Meldrum was offered a position of coordinating talent on the music show Countdown (1974-1987). These years transformed his career to become a widely-known Australian media presence. His interviews captured the attention of many, having been candidly entertaining with stars like Sir Elton John. After hosting the Australian portion of Live Aid in 1985, Meldrum was dubbed a Member of the Order of Australia. He has also been recognized in his home country in the form of awards including Special Achievement (1993) by the Australian Recording Industry Association, and the Ted Albert Award (1994) at the Australasian Performing Right Association.
