Hayley Wickenheiser is a Canadian former ice hockey player and current Assistant Director of Player Development for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Wickenheiser was the first woman to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than a goalie. She is considered to be one of the best female hockey players in the world. She played on Canada’s women’s national ice hockey team from 1994 to 2017 and was the teams career point leader with 168 goals. She played in the winter Olympics five times representing Canada in hockey and one time at the Summer Olympics in softball. Wickenheiser has four Olympic gold medals and one silver. In 2014 she was elected into the International Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission. She retired on January 13, 2017 to attend medical school. In 2018 she became the Assistant Director of Player Development for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
