George Clinton is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and bandleader born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on July 22, 1941. He is the founder of the Parliament-Funkadelic collective. He is considered one of the biggest innovators of funk music. As a teenager, Clinton formed the doo-wop group The Parliaments while working in a barbershop. During the 1960s he wrote songs for Motown. In 1982 he was signed to the label Capitol Records as a solo artist and as part of the P-Funk All-Stars. In 1982 he released his debut studio album titled Computer Games and has since released the albums, You Shouldn’t-Nuf Bit Fish, Some of My Best jokes Are Friends, R&B Skeletons in the Closet, The Cinderella Theory, Hey Man Smell My Finger, Dope Dogs, T.A.P.O.A.F.O.M., How Late Do U Have 2BB4UR Absent?, and George Clinton and His Gangsters of Love. He has also released six live albums and two EPs. As a music producer Clinton has worked on albums for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bootsy Collins and others. In 1997 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside 15 other members of Parliment-Funkadelic.
