Founded in 2008 by lead vocalist Michael Fitzpatrick, the group Fitz and the Tantrums is comprised of Noelle Scaggs, Joe Karnes, James King, Jeremy Ruzumna, and John Wicks, in addition to the founding member Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick and King had been friends since college, and after speaking initially about forming a group, they called upon their other musician friends to establish the lineup. After performing in and around Hollywood and Los Angeles, the band released their debut EP entitled Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1 in 2009. This was the impetus they needed to eventually perform as the opening act for a few of Maroon 5’s shows on their 2009 tour.
The band would go on to release their debut album one year after the EP, titled Pickin’ Up the Pieces. Fitz and the Tantrums later appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and shortly after, they released their second album entitled More Than Just a Dream in the spring of 2013. Their songs “Out of My League” as well as “The Walker” both managed to chart at the #1 slot on the US Alternative charts, as well as at #14 and #13, respectively, on the US Rock charts.
