Fairport Convention


Fairport Convention is a band formed by Gerry Conway, Simon Nicol, Chris Leslie, Dave Pegg, and Ric Sanders in London, England in 1967. The group released their self-titled debut album Fairport Convention in 1968. The group gained significant popularity when they released Si Tu Dois Partir, a french version of If You Gotta Go, Go Now by Bob Dylan.

In 1969, the group’s album Liege & Lief made it to No. 17 of the albums chart in the UK. 1970’s Full House album made it to the UK charts peaking at No. 13.

During the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2002, the group received the Lifetime Achievement award. The album Liege & Lief  was also voted by Radio 2 listeners as the Most Influential Folk Album of all Time in 2006.
