Earl Thomas is an American professional football player born in Orange, Texas on May 7, 1989. He is currently a free safety for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. Thomas played football in high school at West Orange-Stark High School in Orange, Texas for the West Orange-Stark Mustangs football team. He went on to play college football at the University of Texas at Austin for the Texas Longhorns football team from 2007 to 2009. In 2010 he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round, 14th overall, in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was signed to a five-year contract with the Seahawks for $18.3 million with $11.75 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $500,000. In the 2013 season he became a Super Bowl champion when the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. In 2014 he was signed to a four-year extension contract for $40 million with $27.72 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $9.5 million. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 on a four-year contract worth $55 million with $32 million guaranteed. Throughout his NFL career he has recorded 684 tackles, 67 pass deflections, 28 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, and 3 defensive touchdowns.
