Contact / Musician

Doug Pinnick is the vocalist and lead guitarist for the progressive rock band King’s X, with a career spanning four decades from the late 1980s to the present. Pinnick’s early musical influences were Sly and the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin. Pinnick was earlier associated with the Christian and gospel rock genre, but has stressed that he draws on these roots for the soulful sound and not faith-based content.

King’s X was formed in 1979 when Pinnick and drummer Jerry Gaskill joined in a project fronted by Greg X. Volz of the band Petra. Joined by Ty Tabor, Pinnick and Gaskill variously toured or sessioned with other music acts throughout the early1980s before meeting with band ZZ Top’s production company, who took an interest in the group. They signed their first contract with Megaforce Records in 1987 and released their first album, “Out of the Silent Planet,” in 1988. As of this current writing, King’s X has released nineteen albums and extended play records. Their 1990 single “It’s Love” charted #6 on the Billboard US Rock charts. Pinnick has also engaged in a number of solo and side projects.
