Desmond Howard is an American former professional football player born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 15, 1970. He played as a return specialist and a wide receiver. He played football in high school at St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to play college football at the University of Michigan. Howard was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011 and the college retired his number in 2015. In 1992 he was selected by the Washington Redskins in the first round, fourth overall, in the 1992 NFL Draft. In 1995 he played with the Jacksonville Jaguars for one season in 1996 played with the Green Bay Packers for one season. He became a Super Bowl champion during his season with the Green Bay Packers when the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI against the New England Patriots 35-21. He was voted the Super Bowl MVP. In 2017 he started playing for the Oakland Raiders and was with the team until 1998. In 1999 he re-joined the Green Bay Packers, but was cut midseason. He was signed by the Detroit Lions that same year and played with the team until he retired after the 2002 season. Throughout his NFL career he caught 123 passes for 1,597 yards, rushed 68 yards, returned 244 punts for 2,895 yards, gained 7,595 yards returning 359 kickoffs, and scored 16 touchdowns.
