Daniel Day-Lewis was born on April 29, 1957 in Kensington, London. His first role was an uncredited extra part in Sunday Bloody Sunday in 1971. He started in theater work, such as Frost in May, How Many Miles to Babylon and Another Country. He had a small part in Gandhi. Day-Lewis gained critical acclaim for his work on My Beautiful Laundrette in 1985 and A Room with a View. He was part of a group of up-and-coming British actors known as the Brit Pack. His method acting for The Unbearable Lightness of Being and My Left Foot gained him more acclaim and set him apart from other actors. His work in My Left Foot won him his first Academy Award and BAFTA Award. His famous role in The Last of the Mohicans in 1992 and in 1993’s The Age of Innocence earned him international renown.
He starred in The Crucible in 1996 and The Boxer the same year before taking a break from acting. In 2000, he returned in the critically acclaimed Gangs of New York, which earned him an Academy Award nomination and a BAFTA. He starred in There Will Be Blood in 2007, which earned him an Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG. He took a stab at musicals with his 2009 movie Nine, earning a nomination for a Golden Globe. He played Abraham Lincoln in 2012, earning more critical acclaim and an Academy Award.
