Cibo Matto

Originating in New York City, Cibo Matto is an indie pop/rock band comprised of Yuka Honda (synthesizer, keyboards, backing vocals), Miho Hatori (lead vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar), and Yuko Araki (drums) Former members include Sean Lennon, Timo Ellis and Duma Love.

After working together in the noise rock band Leitoh Lychee, Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda formed Cibo Matto. They released a self-titled EP that caught the attention of Warner Bros. Records which singed them to a record deal. They released their first album Viva! La Woman in 1996. Cibo Matto is an Italian phrase that translates to “Crazy Food” and many of the tracks from Viva! La Woman featured lyrics related to food, including “Know Your Chicken”, “Apple”, “Birthday Cake” and “Sugar Water.” After the videos for “Birthday Cake” and “Sugar Water” enjoyed success on MTV, the group appeared on shows such as Oddville and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In 1997, Hatori and Honda were joined by new members Sean Lennon, Timo Ellis and Duma Love. This new line up released the album Stereo ★ Type A in 1999 and continued to tour until disbanding in 2002. All of the members of Cibo Matto went on to release solo albums.

On March 18, 2011, Cibo Matto announced it would reunite to perform as part of a benefit concert for victims of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Subsequently, they embarked on a US reunion tour titled “Yeah, Basically Cibo Matto” On June 15, 2013, the band played the Meltdown Festival in London; included in their set were three new songs, “ MFN”, “Check In”, and “Tenth Floor Ghost Girl.”

Cibo Matto released its latest album, Hotel Valentine, on February 14, 2014. In September, they announced their “Fall Flavor Tour” and the release of their newest music video.
