Will Downing

Brooklyn-born Will Downing is an R&B/jazz singer, songwriter, and composer currently based out of New Jersey. He was signed to Island Records during the late 1980’s, and produced several albums with the label. Late 1980’s self titled album included a top ten hit single, “A Love Supreme,” and the album itself went platinum. 1991’s A Dream Fulfilled peaked in the top 25 on the Billboard charts. All The Man You Need, released in 2001, earned Downing a Grammy for ‘Best Traditional R&B Album.’

Downing was later signed to Peak Records, where he released several more albums, including: After Tonight (2007), Classique (2009), Silver (2013), and Euphoria (2014). 2013’s Silver marked Downing’s 25 year anniversary in the music industry.

Among other achievements, Downing has received three awards through SoulTracks Reader’s Choice Awards. In 2012, he earned ‘Song of The Year’ for his single, “The Blessing.” In 2013, he once again earned ‘Song of The Year.’ This time, for “You Were Meant Just For Me.” 2014 he was rewarded ‘Male Artist of The Year.’

Tamar Braxton

Singer, songwriter and reality television star Tamar Braxton was born Tamar Estine Braxton on March 17, 1977 in Severn, Maryland. She is the youngest sister of R&B star Toni Braxton. Along with their sisters Traci, Trina and Towanda, Tamar and Toni were signed to Arista records as “The Braxtons” in 1989. They released one single, “Good Life” before Toni left the group in 1991 to pursue a solo career. Tamar and the rest of the Braxton sisters became her back-up singers. In 1996, Tamar, Trina and Towanda released an album on Atlantic Records titled So Many Ways, which included production from Jermaine Dupri and Daryl Simmons. Tamar left the group in 1998 to pursue a solo career and her debut solo album, Tamar, was released on March 21, 2000 on DreamWorks Records, however, when the album failed to generate much interest, DreamWorks dropped her from their roster. Tamar then performed back-up vocals on sister Toni’s next three albums, The Heat (2000), Snowflakes (2001), and More than a Woman (2002) and also performed during her Las Vegas revue, Toni Braxton: Revealed.

In 2011, Tamar, her mother and sisters began starring in the WE TV reality show Braxton Family Values. In September of 2012, it was announced Tamar would be featured in a spin-off series with husband Vincent Herbert. The series, Tamar & Vince, featured the recording of Tamar’s second album, Love and War, which was released on September 3, 2013 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. Braxton’s first Christmas album, Winter Loversland, was released on November 11, 2013. In December of 2013, Tamar Braxton received three Grammy nominations for Love and War.

In February of 2014, Tamar was featured on the remix of Robin Thicke’s single “For the Rest of My Life.” On October 6th, she released her new single, “Let Me Know” featuring rapper Future. Also in October of 2014, the second season of Tamar and Vince began airing on WE TV.

Christina Milian

Christine Marie Flores, known better by her stage name of Christina Milian, was born on September 26, 1981, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Though she was raised in Waldorf, Maryland, she and her family moved to Los Angeles so that she could pursue a career in acting as a young teenager. When she was only 19, she collaborated with Jennifer Lopez on the song “Play”, and later in 2001, released her debut self-titled album, which did better internationally than in the United States.

Her fame in the U.S., however, skyrocketed with the release of her second album It’s About Time in 2004 due in part to the track “Dip It Low”, which shot up to the #5 slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and went Gold. To promote her new release, Christina Milian went on tour alongside Usher and Kanye West as their opening act. In 2005, Christina Milian received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album, and the next year, released her third album So Amazin’. In addition to her career as a singer, Christina Milian has also made appearances in movies such as Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, both in 2009.

Sinead Harnett

Sinead Harnett, born Sinead Monica Harnett on October 12th, 1989 in Finchley, London is a singer and songwriter. She began to develop her musical skills in at the Arts University College in Bournemouth. In 2011 she gained prominence as a vocalist following a request by grime artists Wiley for a featured vocalist for his new single. Sinead was chosen and was featured on the single “Walk Away” from the album Chill Out Zone.  In 2012 she was featured on Disclosure’s song “Boiling.”  In 2013 she released her first single on Black Butter Records called “Got Me.” In 2014 she released her first EP called N.O.W. through the label 333 Records.  The single “No Other Way” was named track of the week by The Guardian upon its release. In 2016 she released her second EP called Sinead Harnett on Rinse FM. The EP features collaborations with artists such as GRADES, JD. Reid, Kaytranada, and Snakehips.

Jacquees

Jacquees is the stage name of the American R&B singer and songwriter Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 15, 1994. In 2011 he released his debut EP titled I Am Jacquees. He has since released the EPs 19, Lost At Sea, and This Time I’m Serious. He released his debut mixtape in 2011 titled Round of Applause and continued to release the mixtapes Fan Affiliated, Quemix, Quemix 2, Mood, Since You Plain’, Fuck a Friend Zone, TBA, and Lost At Sea 2. In 2014 he was signed with the record label Cash Money Records. He released his debut studio album in 2018 titled 4275. Jacquees has also collaborated with the artists Jermaine Dupri, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, T.I., Donell Jones and others. In 2018 he was nominated for an iHeartRadio Music Award for R&B Song of the Year for his single “B.E.D.”

Massari

Sarri Abboud was born on December 10, 1980 in Beirut Lebanon, but his family moved to Canada when he was 11 years old. In 2002, Massari adopted the stage name Massari and released his debut single Spitfire. Massari got signed to the label CP Records where he released his debut album, Massari. It was received well internationally and earned him fans all over Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

In 2009, he signed with a new label, Universal Records Canada, after which he released his second album, Forever Massari. In 2011 he signed back onto CP Records and released the single Brand New Day. In 2017 he released his third album Beirut. He won the SiriusXM Indie Awards Dance Artist of the Year in 2013 and the Murex d’Or Award Best International Arabian Artist in 2014. He is still making music and working on collaborations with artists like French Montana.

Shirley Murdock

Shirley Murdock is an American R&B singer and songwriter born in Toledo, Ohio on May 22, 1957. She is best known for her hit single “As We Lay” that was released in 1986. She started her music career as a backing singer for Roger Troutman’s family band, Zapp. In 1986 she was signed as a solo artist to the label Elektra Records and released her debut single titled “No More”. The song charted at number 24 on the Billboard R&B singles chart. That same year she released her debut studio album titled Shirley Murdock!. The album charted at number 44 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 9 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and was certified Gold. She has since released the albums A Woman’s Point of View, Let There Be Love!, Home, and Soulfood. Murdock has also released one live album and one compilation album. In 2005 she made her debut in film in the movie Sweating in the Spirit and also had a role in the 2007 film First Cousins.

Deborah Cox

Canadian R&B singer Deborah Cox was born on July 13, 1974, in Toronto. She lent her voice to various commercials starting at the age of 12, and was also heavily into performing at talent shows. She worked as a backup singer for Celine Dion in the early 1990s, and shortly after, moved to Los Angeles so that she could find a record label to sign her. Arista Records picked her up in 1995, and that year, Deborah Cox released her debut self-titled album. Though she did not achieve the level of success she had wanted, Deborah Cox forged on and released her second album One Wish, which featured the immensely popular single “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here”. The song shot to #1 on the Hot R&B charts in the U.S., where it remained for fourteen weeks straight. One Wish went Platinum, and is counted as her most successful endeavor.

Deborah Cox went on to release The Morning After in 2002, Destination Moon in 2007, and The Promise in 2008, which sold thousands of copies in the U.S. in its first week. In 2011, Deborah Cox released her 11th #1 single, “If It Wasn’t For Love”, right in the midst of her budding career on Broadway. Deborah Cox married her high school sweetheart Lascelles Stephens, who is also her songwriting partner and manager.

Cassie Ventura

Cassie Ventura is an American singer, actress, dancer and model born in New London, Connecticut on August 26, 1986. At the age of 14 she started modeling and at 16 she was modeling for local department stores. In 2004 while in New York she was signed with the modeling agency Wilhelmina Models.That same year she met the record producer Ryan Leslie and started her music career. She was signed to the label NextSelection Lifestyle Group and in 2005 released her debut single “Kiss Me.” The song became an instant success and caught the attention of Diddy who partnered with her to create her debut album. In 2006 she released her debut album through Atlantic Records and Bad Boy that reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart and in the top forty on the UK Albums Chart. She made her film debut in 2008 in the movie Step Up 2: The Streets and continued landing roles in films like The Perfect Match, Honey 3: Dare to Dance, and Wonderland. In 2018 she landed her debut role on television in the show Empire where she played the role of Haven Quinn for 2 episodes. Throughout her career she has been nominated for several awards and has won a Toyota Bold Award, an MVPA Award, and an ASCAP Pop Music Award.
