Carice van Houten is a Dutch actress and singer born in Leiderdorp, Netherlands on September 5, 1976. She is best known for her role as Melisandre in the HBO television show Game Of Thrones. In 1997 she made her debut in film in the movie 3 ronden and continued landing roles in the films Suzy Q, Undercover Kitty, Father’s Affair, Black Swans, A Thousand Kisses, Black Book, Love is All, Dorothy Mills, From Time to Time, The Happy Housewife, Black Death, Jackie, Family Way, The Fifth Estate, Race, Brimstone, Incarnate, Black Butterflies and others. In 1997 she made her debut on television in the show Het Labyrint and has since had roles in the shows De acteurs, Luifel & Luifel, Russen, Kopspijkers, Koppensnellers, In therapie, and Game of Thrones. She has also voiced characters on the shows The Simpsons and Robot Chicken. In 2012 she released her debut album titled See You on the Ice with EMI Music Netherlands. Throughout her career she has been nominated for a number of awards and has won five Golden Calf Awards, six Rembrandt Awards, four Golden Film Awards and more.
