Ang Lee was born on October 23, 1954, in Pingtung, Taiwan. He is a film director, screenwriter, and producer. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Illinois. He started directing the Taiwanese Father Knows Best trilogy, which received eight nominations at the Golden Horse Film Festival. In 1995, Lee directed the British classic Sense and Sensibility, making him a second-time winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2000, he directed the critically acclaimed film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which received 10 Academy Award nominations, four of which he won. He won an Academy Award for Best Director in 2005 for the film Brokeback Mountain, which was based on a story by Annie Proulx. He also received a Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film for the movie Life of Pi.
