Andrei Konchalovsky is a Russian film director, producer and screenwriter, born in Moscow, Russia on August 20, 1937. He is best known for his work on the films Siberiade, Runaway Train, Tango & Cash, The Odyssey, Paradise, and The Postman’s White Nights. He was also known for frequently collaborating with the famous director and screenwriter Andrei Tarkovsky early in his career. Andrei went to school planning to be a pianist, but changed course after meeting Andrei Tarkovsky and co-wrote the movie Andrei Rublev. In 1965 his first full length feature was released titled The First Teacher and was popular in the Soviet Union and at film festivals abroad. He has also been part of the films Duet for One, Homer and Eddie, House of Fools, Paradise, Sin, The Last Station, Moscow Chill and a number of others. In 1961 he made his acting debut in The Trail of Madmen and has had roles in Ivan’s Childhood, I Am Twenty and Ryaba, My Chicken. Throughout his career he has been nominated for numerous awards and has won a Career Award, The Moscow Times Award, a Russian Film Directors Guild Award, a Person of the Year Award and many more.
