Amitabh Bachchan is an Indian actor, producer, television host, and former politician, born in Allahabad, India on October 11, 1942. He is best known for his work in Bollywood and is one of the most recognized names in the country. He is known in India as the original Angry Young Man of Bollywood. He made his debut in acting in 1969 in the film Saat Hindustani and went on to be in a multitude of other films and television shows. In 1995 he made his debut in directing in the film Gulabi and produced and directed several more films throughout his career. In 1984 he took a break from acting and entered politics, winning the seat for the 8th Lok Sabha, he won by one of the highest victory margins in general election history. He resigned three years after winning the position calling politics a cesspool. The Indian government honored him with Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his work in Bollywood. He has also been nominated and won numerous awards for his work and has had several books written about him and his legacy.
