Alan Cummings was born on January 27,1965 in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Scotland. He made his film debut in Passing Glory (1986). He later starred in Prague (1992), which earned him the Best Actor award at the Atlantic Film Festival and a Scottish BAFTA Best Actor nomination. This allowed him to work in films like GoldenEye (1995), Emma (1996), Circle of Friends (1995) and the Spy Kids trilogy.

He worked on television in the United Kingdom on the series Take the High Road (1986), The Runaway (2011), and Who Do You Think You Are? (2010). He began a theatre career in Scotland in 1990 at the Royal National Theatre Production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Daria Fo, which earned him the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance. He continues to have an active acting career in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
